WIN FOR STUART EARL
IMPRESSIVE EFFORT AT EPSOM
Stuart Earl showed himself to be one of the best stayers produced in the North Island for some time, when he won the F, J. Smith Memorial Handicap on the opening day of the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting last Saturday. He gradually made un his handicap of 48 yards, and finished with great determination to overtake Ben’s Son in the straight and win with something in hand. He ran his last four furlongs in Imin 2-ssec. Owned and trained at Hawera by L. J. Hunt, Stuart .Earl was capably handled by D. R. Grantham, who has driven him in most of his races. • He is a five-year-old stallion by Robert Earl from Red Pine, a mare which was sent to the North Island in a draft of horses from the Ashburton district some years ago. His onportunities there will be very restricted in future. It is likely that he will later be campaigned in the South Island. Last season he proved himself one of the best four-year-olds in the country, and in 23 starts he had seven wins and 12 placings for £4690 in stakes. Altogether, he has had 47 starts for nine wins, 20 placings and £6172 10s in stakes. „ , Stuart Earl is a brother to Earl Pine and Earl Red.
