LAND BALLOT
TWENTY CHRISTCHURCH SECTIONS OFFERED
A ballot for 20 building sections, 19 of which went to former servicemen and one to a civilian, was held in Christchurch yesterday under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner of Crown Lands for the Canterbury district (Mr E. J. G. Price). All the sections are in Christchurch.
There were 53 applications by former servicemen, and 30 civilian applications The prices of the sections ranged from ,£ 175 to £360. The sections were made available to the Lands Department under the Land Subdivision and Counties Act
Under the regulations governing the ballot any former serviceman, although he may have been in the armed services for only a day, is given preference over a civilian. When an applicant is successful, he must build on the section within a year or furnish evidence of being about to build, otherwise the section is given to the person holding the second option. Three names are drawn for each section.

Hutchings (Leistrella road, Halswell), J. A. Manson (Grahams road, Papanui), A L. Hichinbotham (Greers road, Bryndwr), J. Sorns (Port Hills road, Heathcote), L. T. Wilson, K. J. Brown (Briggs road, Shirley). H. Hirst, E. A. Wehner, W. J. H. Rowse (Quinns road, Shirley), and Mrs L. Kerr (Brynley street. Hornby).
