FARMERS’ MEETING AT TAI TAPU
RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION FORMED
The association would be helpful in creating a link between the board and farmers of the districts, said Mr E. J. Stalker, a member of the North Canterbury Catchment Board, at a meeting of farmers at Tai Tapu. “I am particularly interested in the Halswell river. It is as low now as we have ever seen it, and something should be done about the menace ot the mud banks,” said Mr Stalker. Something should also be done about the eradication of the willow trees in the river, said Mr Stalker. An association covering the Tai Tapu, Motukarara, Ladbrooks and Greenpark areas was formed by the meeting. It was given the title of the “Halswell Area Ratepayers’ Association.” The following officers were elected: Chairman, Mr R. Court; secretary, Mr D. Graham; committee, Messrs F. J. Miller and D. Miller (Motukarara), F. Canter and J. G. Macartney (Greenpark), D. Parkinson and F. Woods (Tai Tapu), G. Mugford and Hassell (Ladbrooks).
