893 IMMIGRANTS ON ATLANTIS

WIDE VARIETY OF OCCUPATIONS 77 PERSONS COMING TO CHRISTCHURCH (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. September 27. The Minister of Immigration (Mr W. Sullivan) said to-dav that the Atlantis, which would arrive on Sunday evening on its last trip to New Zealand as an immigration vessel, was bringing 893 new settlers. Included in the draft are 278 single men, 195 single women, 131 family groups totalling 400 persons, ail of whom are assisted immigrants from the United Kingdom, and 20 selected fare-paying passengers. The draft will disembark on Monday morning and will go immediately to prearranged employment and accommodation. Except a number of tradesmen for hydro works, all the family groups have been nominated by employers, relatives, or friends who have accommodation available for them. A number of the single persons have also been nominated. The settlers will be dispersed widely throughout the country, the destinations of the biggest groups being: Auckland 171, Wellington 201 Christchurch 77. Dunedin 113, Hamilton 45. and Invercargill 22. The immigrants include carpenters for hydro schemes, fitters and other engineering tradesmen, nurses and .schoolteachers, a group of herd testers, tradesman and labourers for the Post and Telegraph Department, and workers for the State Forest Service.
