22 PERSONS DEAD; 500 INJURED

(Rec. 12.30 a.m.) RIO DE JANIERO, September 17, Twenty-two persons were killed and 500 injured yesterday when the roof of an old picture theatre in the inland Brazilian city of Campinas collapsed during a matinee. Fifteen children were among those crushed to death. Forty of those injured are in a serious condition. About 2000 were in the audience when the roof caved in. Rescue workers had to dig in the ruins for many hours to find the bodies. Their x.orx was made hazardous by the threatened collapse of the theatre walls.
