DEATH OF FRENCH MINISTER
PARIS, September 16. Mr Maurice Petsche, the French Minister of State and a Minister of Finance, has died ini Pans, aged 55. Mr Petsche, an Inde P ende " t ’ who was Minister of Finance in three successive French Cabinets from January, 1949, to July. 1951, played a big part in establishing the franc and in the completion of France’s economic recovery after the war. In the recent French Cabinet crisis, he was twice asked to be ' Minister, but he failed to get enough support. During the war he took a leading part in the Resistance Movegnent
