ALLEGED PLOT IN PERSIA
Dr. Mussadiq Orders Investigation
TEHERAN, Sepember 16. The Prime Minister of Persia (Dr. Mussadia) to-day ordered police and army authorities to investigate reports of a threatened coup d'etat against his Government. Broadcasting to the nation. Dr. Mussadiq said that he and the Government would accept no compromise in the oil dispute with Britain so long as he enjoyed the support of the people and Parliament. “The Shah appointed mv Government, with the backing of the whole of the people, to see through the nationalisation of our oil industry,” he said. “You have shown in this national struggle that you are worthy of our glorious past, and future generations will think with pride of their brave forbears who shunned no sacrifices to obtain restitution of their rights. “Some people think they could settle the fate of the nation behind closed aoors under cover of night,” he said. ‘ What a gross error. But what a good thing that their enticing worths met with no response. “There will be no room for intrigues in Persia any longer. Instead, respect for national rights will prevail. The great Powers of the world must see at last that thev have to deal with an adult nation which will never agree to be the object of exploitation. “A strong Government, conscientious in its duties, is in power. Those who will not obey the Government have no place in our community. You can be sure that so long as this Government is certain of the support of the people and of Parliament no Power will succeed in resurrecting by compromise or similar methods th? former Anglo-Iranian Oil Company.
