TRADE WITH JAPAN

Sir, —Western leaders appear to have two options regarding Japanese trade —either they allow Japanese cheap goods to flood their own countries, which eventually will cause mass unemployment, or thev leave Japan to choose between the Eastern and Western ideologies. This latter fills our leaders with fear of Japan favouring Asian policy, which naturally Japan will finally do, being of Asian origin. Westerners keep to the old policy of pointing a gun at anyone who dares to differ from or condemn their outworn maxim, “We are right.” If Westerners had evolved a post-war plan wherebv none of their countries had unemployment. poverty or illiteracy there would have been no worry about Javan or Asia, as they would have followed our lead. Western countries have no constructive policy for balancing freedom with human rights.—Yours, etc.. HOME FRONT. September 15, 1951.
