AUSTRALIA AND ASIA

(Rec. 10 p.m.) CANBERRA, Sept. 11 A complete revision of Australia's policy towards South-East Asia is urged bv the former Secretary of External Affairs (Dr. John Burton). He told the Canberra Rotary Club that Australia was an Asian country. “Though we try to deny it, it is a geographic fact. No political party in Australia has shown any real interest in following a policy which will assist Australian interests in Asia. Australia is headed for disaster unless she has leaders courageous enough to pursue such a policy. AU parties are fearful of criticism that they might not be co-ope’-afing sufficiently with the West- • crn Powers or too much with Asian i Powers. i “If we are to hold this country, we I must endeavour to cater for the needs of oil’- Asian neighbours and show an (intention of making the best possible iuse of our resources."
