JAPANESE PEACE TREATY

Sir,—The daily press accounts of the Japanese peace treaty make it appear a sincere, honest attempt to reinstate Japan among the “better nations” (?)—the nations who stand for capitalism, rearmament, . wars, poverty among riches and witch-hunting. Our leaders signed the treaty without consulting their people, so therefore the treaty, in my opinion, is more or less a business deal among the leaders. America, rich and prosperous and not war-devastated, had a chance to be a good leader of democracy, but instead chose Fascism. No wonder the Asian people scorn her subtle methods. — etc. pEACE (;) September 11, 1951.
