TRAFFIC CONTROL

Sir, —I wonder why the City Council took all the trouble and expense to erect traffic signals that are completely ignored by the general public. Last Thursday, crossing over Hereford street, a lady motorist flashed across Colombo street and just missed me by the proverbial cat’s whisker. Today, I got to Cashel street as the red light appeared. I jammed on my brakes and jumped off my cycle. Not so a green car lady driver, who ignored the light, went nonchalantly over and parked outside the main post office at 3.22 p.m.—Yours, etc, ELDERLY LADY CYCLIST. September 11, 1951.
