——♦—— FUMES FROM ORGAN FILL CHURCH
INCIDENT IN GREYMOUTH PARISH (From Out Owe Rtporttr) GREYMOUTH, September 10. There was an abrupt en& to th* evening service at Holy Trinity Church. Greymouto, yesterday. Parishoners were ushered out of the church when it became filled with pungent smoke which issued from the organ, Heating resulting from a defect in the transformer in the sound box of the organ had caused the pitch in th* instrument to smoulder. Clouds of smoke rose from the pitch and circulated inside th* church A lay reader (Mr R. Haglund), wh* was nearing the end of his sermon, realised that it was not possible t* continue and asked toe congregation to leave. The congregation filed out of the church in an orderly fashiory although many thought there had been an outbreak of fire. The Greymouth Fire Brigade wa* summoned but its services were not The damaged section of the orgat Will have to be replaced, but it 11 expected that the instrument will b* in working order again by next Sunday.
