CIVIC FAREWELL TO PRIMATE

,—. CEREMONY TO BE HELD ON OCTOBER 9

_The Primate and Archbishop of New Zealand and Bishop of Christchurch, the Most Rev. Campbell West-Watson, will be given a civic farewell in the Civic Theatre on October 9. Archbishop West-Watson will relinquish his charge of the diocese on October 31. the day before the consecration of the new bishop, the Very Rev. A. K. Warren, Dean of Christchurch. The deciffon to hold the farewell was made at a meeting of Anglican Church authorities and the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr R. M. Macfarlane) yesterday morning. Invitations have been sent to membfr* Of.ffie clergy and lay members pt the Anglican Synod which will be in session in Christchurch at the time of the farewell. Invitations have also been sent to representatives of other denominations.

The Rev. Canon S. Parr will speak on behalf of the clergy of the Christchurch Diocese, and will also make a presentation on behalf of the clergy, Mr E. Hitchcock will speak for the {•’ty and also ma ke a presentation on behalf of church people. The National Council of Churches has been asked to supply a speaker representing other denominations. “
