PRICE OF EGGS

Sir,—Could I have an answer at the end of your column concerning the price of eggs? In ‘“Hie Press” at the end of July, a statement on the price of eggs from August 1 would be 2s lOd for Canterbury and the West Coast. I was in Christchurch during the week of August 1 and saw eggs priced 2s lOjd but over here we are still paying 3s 2d from the grocers and 3s 3d from neighbours. Is this correct? —Yours, etc., CANTERBURY-ITE. West Coast, September 16, 1951. [When this letter was referred to an official of the Marketing Department he said that the maximum retail prices for eggs in Westland are: heavy grade. 3s 6a a dozen: standard. 3s 4d; medium, 3s 2id. These prices include i the 1 retailers’ margins which vary from 4d to 4Jd for eggs of different grading.!
