CURRENT NOTES
Mrs Romolo Marcos Zabala, wife of the Consul for the Argentine in New Zealand, and her three daughters have arrived in Wellington. Mrs Zabala is of Swedish and English parentage. She is a daughter of Baron Harold Bjorkman, formerly of the Royal Horse Guards. She met her husband in Washington, where she lived during the war.
Anthony Theodoridi, who is a dress designer, has arrived in Wellington and will make his home in New Zealand He was represented by a model at a Greek fashion cavalcade in New York this year, and hopes to exhibit at New Zealand displays in the future. A talk was given by Mrs Emerson at a meeting of the West of England Women’s Association. It was reported that bed quilts made by the members had been sent to the City Mission. Mrs Easterbrook presided. A competition was won by Mrs Lowcay. Mrs H. Graham presided at the August meeting of the Linwood branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. The Band of Hope superintendent reported that three new members had been enrolled. Visits to the sick were made during the month.
