A legendary figure among ballet lovers. 41-year-old Galina Ulanova, Russia's leading ballerina, has been invited to dance with the Sadler’s Wells company in “Giselle” or “Swan Lake,” Until last Juno Ulanova had never danced outside the Iron Curtain. Then she appeared in Italy at the Florence Festival. Critics hailed her as a magnificent ballerina. Ulanova's parents were both dancers and toured with Pavlova before the First World War. Ulanova has danced since she was eight years old." She is a People’s Artist of the Soviet Union and won the Stalin Prize three times. She said in Italy that she would like to dance in London.

As yet there has been no reply from Moscow, but Covent Garden officials say they are hopeful that British audiences will be able to see Ulanova now that the rule of never appearing outside Russia has been broken.
