BRITISH NAVAL FORCES

LONDON, August 25. Eight British warships are lying off or close to Abadan. A Royal Navy spokesman said that they were “ready for any and all demands.” He added that units of the Ist Destroyer Flotilla were now concentrating in the Shat-el-Arab river, which divides Persia from Iraq.

The British naval force is the biggest seen in these waters since the end of the Second World War.
