NEW COMET JET AIRLINERS

POSSIBLE USE ON N.Z. SERVICE

Sir Miles Thomas, chairman of the British Overseas Airways Corporation, announced to-night that five special de HaviUand Comet jet airliners are now on order, which are suitable for the air service from London to Australia and New Zealand. The five are fitted with Rolls-Royce Avon engines—larger than the Ghost

jet engines being installed in the Comets which are to operate on the shorter routes. . Sir Miles Thomas. said that Avonengined Comets would also be used on the London-New York service. He claimed that the Comets would cut the present commercial airline timetables by about half.
