TROTTING YANKIWI SOLD TO AUSTRALIA
MEMBER OF GOOD WINNING FAMILY
Yankiwi has been sold by his breeder, Mr G. Lancaster, and he has left for New South Wales, where he will race in future. The Josedale Grattan colt showed considerable promise in a restricted career and he should win his way to the best company in Australia. He is a neatly-made pacer, and his brilliance in the early part of his races should be a great advantage on the small turning tracks. Yankiwi started racing as a two-year-old and he failed to reach a place in four starts. As a three-year-old he had threb wins and two placings from 10 starts, and last season he had 10 starts for two wins and five placings, His total stake-earnings amount to £2460. Yankiwi made some particularly smart efforts last season. He beat Petite Yvonne in the, Grey Lynn Handicap at Epsom on September 16 and he again proved too good for the U. Scott filly when they met in the Empire Handicap at Hutt Park on November 4. At the New Zealand Cup meeting he finished second to Johnny Globe in’the New Zealand Metropolitan Challenge Stakes, recording 2min 38sec for one mile and. a quarter. At Addington in February he finished a good third to Petro Star and Morano in the Autumn Stakes, recording 3min 28 4-ssec for the one mile and five furlongs. Yankiwi is bred on sound staying lines, being by Josedale Grattan, a New Zealand Cup and free-for-all winner, from Free Again, by Jack Potts from Free Advice, by Blue Mountain King, tracing back to Thelma, ancestress of more than 90 winners in New Zealand. Free Again won the Great Northern Trotting Stakes, but she did not race again because of an injury. She was a sister to two outstanding classic and handicap winners in Horsepower and Pacing Power. Free Advice was a champion of her day. Other winners from Yankiwi’s family in recent months have been Dictation. Perpetua, Gold Change, Sarasota and Goldina. Yankiwi should be a good proposition as a sire when his racing days are over.
At New Brighton The New Brighton trainer, L. Davidson, has Special News. Special Globe, and Tosca back in work and they are being prepared for racing early this season. Davidson is very pleased with the progress made by a two-year-old filly by Gold Chief from Mayfair Lady, by Gamble. Poudre d’Or, which showed ability in her races last season, is out for a long spell. She may be more than useful later in the season. Errol’s Pal
Errol’s Pal and Tilly Girl are now being prepared at Belfast by P. G. Wilson. Errol's Pal is a likely type of maiden pacer. She is a four-year-old mare by Emulous from Laurene Grattan, a halfsister by Grattan Loyal to a good winner in Checkmate. Tilly Girl is a four-year-old mare by Great News from Doreen de Oro, by Rey de Oro from Madame Franzie. Botli Errol's Pal and Tilly Girl have the ability to leave maiden coTnpany soon.
Quite Sure Gelding Branford, which has not raced for more than four years, is being prepared as a trotter by A. R. McKenzie, at Harewood. Branford, which is now a nine-year-old, is by Quite Sure from Dora Parrish, by Guy Parrish from a mare by Tracey. Dora Parrish is also the dam of Stuart Lee, a successful sire in Australia. Branford showed useful speed as a pacer and at Ills first success he acounted for a high-class pacer in Snowflake. Ingenuity Well Forward
The Quite Sure gelding. Ingenuity, is well forward in his work, and he will strip a fit horse for his first engagement this season. He lias been off the scene for some time and he has built up well during his spell. Last season he showed good form for his young trainer, D. J. Townley, with two wins and five placings from 11 starts. He is a very solid trotter and he should be more than useful this season. Townley also has Witchcraft well forward. He showed a useful turn of speed in his only race last season, and with more time and experience he may develop worth-while form. Ingenuity is a six-year-old gelding by Quito Sure from Judy Wrack, by Wrack from a Guy Parrish mare. Witchcraft is a six-year-old gelding by Quite Sure from Sorceress, by Wrack. Townley has a number of maiden horses in work, including a three-year-old trotter by Light Brigade from Amore. a five-year-old mare by U. Scott from Lady Sonoma, and a four-year-old mare by U. Soctt from the Grattan Loyal mare Silver Grattan.
Tiki Napu, which showed considerable promise last season, is still having an easy time. He can be expected to be more than useful this term.
