MISS TRUMAN IN LONDON
PRINCESSES ATTEND PARTY (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, June 6. Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret went to a small dinner party given at the United States Embassy by the Ambassador (Mr Walter .Gifford) and Mrs Gifford in honour of Miss Margaret Truman, the President s daughter. „ A ,., . Others present were Mr Attlee, Mr and Mrs Douglas Fairbanks, Mr and Mrs John Poster Dulles, and two of Princess Margaret’s friends, Messrs William Wallace and Mark Bonham Carter. B' Earlier Miss Truman had visited the Tower of London, the Festival of Britain. and a Mayfair beauty parlour, where she had her hair set for the party. Miss Truman asked the Tower Governor (Colonel Carkeet James) to show her where Mary Queen of Scots was “Every American makes that mistake" said Colonel James. “She was not buried here, but in Northamptonshire. There must be something wrong
with your American history books.” Miss Truman spent 50 minutes at the Festival, but cut the visit short because she was tired. She signed the Festival’s Royal visitor’s book—the only person not of royal blood whose name is in the book. The "Daily Mail" says Miss Truman was tired because she set out to see the Festival exhibits wearing threeinch heels. She suggested that the tour be cut short and as soon as she got in her car put her feet up.
