HERITAGE’S WORK REVIEWED
MEMBERSHIP GROWS TO 5741
ANNUAL MEETING HELD AT WELLINGTON
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June fl. Heritage must not merely be ready to afford assistance and guidance when that was sought, but should ensure that such help as was within its compass wag offered without its being sought, said Dr. O. C. Mazengarb, chairman of the executive, at the annual meeting to-day of Heritage (Inc.). Dr. Mazengarb said that to further that aim arrangements had been made for contact with widows and children of New Zealand servicemen in Great Britain.
The report said that membership, including 614 life members, totalled 5741, compared with 5327 last year. The services of Heritage were available to 1618 families (1567 last year) and 2592 children (2525 last year). During the year £10,890 was spent on direct assistance. Particular reference was made to the real personal interest in Heritage affairs shown by the Governor-Gen-eral (Sir Bernard Freyberg) and Lady Freyberg. Officers elected were:—president, Sir David Smith; vice-presidents, the Prime Minister, the president of the Returned Services’ Association, and the heads of the three services ex officio; chairman of the council, Dr. Mazengarb.
