HOTELS IN AVON DISTRICT
“CONDUCT GENERALLY SATISFACTORY ” The general conduct of the three hotels appeared to have been quite satisfactory during the year, said the chairman (Mr F. F. Reid, S.M.) at a meeting of the Avon Licensing Committee yesterday. There had been one conviction against the Heathcote Arms Hotel and one against the Bower Hotel but the barmen had been the offenders, not the licensees, Mr Reid added. The hotels were granted exemption from outside lighting after 6 p.m., with the provision that when power restrictions were applied to street lighting, the lights must be on until 10 p.m. Douglas Alison was issued with a publican’s licence for the Bower Hotel. Norman James Wallace (Heathcote Arms Hotel) and James Vincent McCormack (New Brighton Hotel) were granted renewals of licences.
