BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS In reply to a complaint made by the :ounciJ about meetings of the Lytteltoa licensing Committee being held in Chrisihurch. the Lyttelton Borough Council, at its meeting last night, received a letter Irom the registrar of the Magistrates Court informing the council that tire place of meeting was arranged to suit most members of the committee. The two meetings held in Christchurch were special ones, and it had never been the intention of the committee to hold the usual meetings anywhere but In Lyttelton. The venue was one for the committee alone and not for any other body. "We seem to get a“ot of correspondence from these people telling us what we should do, and what we should not do," said Cr. E. H. Paulsen, when a letter from the Diamond Harbour Burgesses' Association was read, in which a complaint was made of the state of the Diamond Harbour roads. The letter suggested that a grader be purchased or that arrangements be made to hire a grader from the Moynt Herbert County Council. Cr. Paulsen said that it seemed wrong of the association. “The people of Diamond Harbour are ratepayers and are entitled to make suggestions,” said Cr. T. B. Hempstalk. He would support the burgesses' suggestions. The Mayor (Mr F. G. Briggs) said that the council had already resolved to lure a grader. He asked Cr. Hempstalk, who is chairman of the works committee, why this had not been done.

Cr. Gladys Boyd said tt was emergency work as a result of storm damage. There was storm damage in Lyttelton awaiting repairs. The council decided to inform the association that the council had already decided to hire a grader. Personal Item
