The member of Parliament for the district (Mr T. P. Shand), Messrs V. J. Corbett, representing the North Canterbury Hospital Board and welfare organisations, S. V. Workman (Retturned Services’ Association), P. M. Kerr (sports bodies), and Mrs 11. Norton (Maori people), all praised the service given to the community by Dr. Withers, who was presented with an illuminated address, and a mahogany writing desk and chair.
