MAORI BASS IN BRITAIN
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 9.30 p.m.) LONDON. April 10. The Maori singer, Inia Te Wiata, who joined the Covent Garden Opera Company three months ago, seems now firmly launched oh a successful career. After making a success of the role of Bartollo in “Figaro,” he is to Sing the part of Bunyan in the world premiere of Vaughan Williams’s new opera, “Pilgrim’s Progress,” at Covent Garden on April 26. He will also sing at the Royal Festival Hall on May 30 during the Festival of Britain. He will appear with the Morley College choir, which is to perform Michael Tippett’s “Child of Our Time.’’ He will take the part of narrator. His broadcasting engagements during May include the singing of the part of Ramphis in “Aida,” which will be broadcast in the licht programme on May 22, and in the overseas programme on May 24.
