EXPANSION OF U.S. NAVY
WASHINGTON, April 9 The United States Navy expected to have at least 400 warshins in Commission by the middle of 1952, the Chief of Nava’ Operations (Admiral Forrest Sherman) said to-day. The present plans called for three battleships. 27 aircraft-carriers. 19 cruisers. 250 destroyers, and 100 submarines. He said that 810.009 o(tk <in end men would be needed to man the fleet.
The study of atom’e ener’* fopowerini ships was fairly well advanced with work progressing on an atomic-powered submarine.
