Use Of Expresses Restricted .'!■ ‘j -• «w A - NEW TIME-TABLE ANNOUNCED wmArtHt Itt Th otmserveretiw riicks of toal KIAXigU'WiXiS tot the Railways Depsrtment to operate a considerably restricted time-table for passenger ahd goods traffic, on ffitii), who said that the restricted services would commence on Thursday, April 12 from which date South island main trunk and provincial express trains would tun as follow*: The |JS a.m. ChristehurcMftvertargijl and the 7.0 a.m. InvercargillCbriStehutch expresses Will run on Mondays. Wednesdays, and Fridays. The 11 p.m. Christahuroil-In vercargill express will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, while the 6.30 p.m. Invercargill-Christchurch express will run on lundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. These trains are designed to provide connexions with the daylight sailings of the inter-island steamer express.
The 8.23 a.m. Christchurch-Picton and the 9.4 S a.m. Pidtbri-Christehutch expresses will run on Mondays and Fridays only.
The 9.50 a.m. Christchurch-Grev-mouth and the 10.18 a.m. GreymouthChristehUfCH expresses will run on Tuesdays and Saturdays only. The 7.55 a.rtl. DUMedin-Cromwell and the 9.10 a.m. CromWeU-Dutiedin passenger trains wilt observe amended schedules, leaving Dunedin at 146 a.m and Cromwell at 9.0 a.m. respectively on Mondays, Wednesdays, And Fridays. Local train services win also be curtailed. Sunday passenger trains will not run between Chfistchurch and Timaru and between Palmerston and Dunedin. Hailcar services and ChristchurchLyttelton suburban trains hauled by electric locomotives will run as usual.
The Minister said that intending passengers by provincial express trains the running of which is being suspended temporarily, should make early application to the nearest railway booking office to make alternative arrangements. Reservations for days on which trains will Continue to run Will not be affected. Sufficient goods trains will be retained to handle essential foodstuffs, benzine, and other commodities of an urgent nature, although there may be some consequential delays in the transport of goods.
