B.- Bu 'jt, the Canterbury and New Zealand; slow le.thand snin bovrter, at a function held by the Canterbury Cricket ; Association 1a t evening. The president (Mr Hamilton) mentioned that Burtt had established a New Zealand record by Viking 38 wickets in the series.' The previous record had been held by W. E. Merritt, who took 31 wickets in the 1935-36 shasoh. Burtt’s batting for the seeson was also praised by Mr Hamilton,, who sMd tint he had be-n able to overcome the difficulties that recognised batsmen had been unable to handle.

It was mentioned that Burtt hgd been the most successful bowler for New Zealand in tours to England. During the 1849 tour of Britain he had ' taken 128 wickets. Previous best pe:firmajicea were those of Merritt, who took 107 wickets in 1927 and 99 in 1931, and Cowie, who took 114 wickets in 1937.

Mounted photographs of the Canterbury team were also' presented to members of the team on behalf of the association.
