FISHING BOATS TIED UP
NO ICE AVAILABLE AT AUCKLAND (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 5. Twenty fishing boats that should have put to sea this morning were tied up, although indirectly, by the wharf stoppage. Because of the walkout by employees at the King’s Wharf cool stores, they have been unable to get ice. Even if they arrange to get some from the stores they will have to get non-union labour to transport it, and it is questionable whether the crews, who are members of the Seamen’s Union, would take it to sea, and whether members of the Fish Workers’ Union would handle fish packed in it. Auckland expects a fish famine by Friday.
