AUCKLAND TITLES (New Zealand Pre** Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 25. F. R. Lucas, W. M. Amos, P. E. Mathieson, and Mis* Winifred titles, at the final session of tha Auckland swimming championships in th» Newmarket pool last night. Luca* won the 440 yards freestyle by about 50 yard* in smln 6.6*ec. Amos, who had not been in the water for a month because of a poisoned toe, took Ute 100 yards tn 57 4»ec. ahich was 2sec slower than hi* best time. athieson’s winning time in the 440 yards backstroke was Smin Sl.Osec. Mis* Griffin moved easily from start to finish to beat Miss Joan Hasting* and Mis* .Kristin Jacobi, the 1980 title-holder, in the women’s 330 yard* freestyle. Her tim« was Smin 43.65ec. , ' „ There was a surprise when Mi** Margaret Menzies, temporarily forsaking freestyle, took the women’s 100 yard* backstroke title in Slsac.
