RIFLE SHOOTING N.Z. MEETING BEGINS
WIND CAUSES LOW SCORING
DONALD AGAIN WINS OPENING MATCH (New Zealand Pres* Assoctatton) TRENTHAM CAMP, February 26. Low scoring throughout the opening day of the. New Zealand rifle-shooting championship meeting to-day waa attributed by riflemen to the worst fish-tail wind on a fine day experienced at Trentham for year*. Though, the variation wa* only a few degrees right or left, the changes were so sudden as to cause some bad scores at the final range of the day. To-day’s shooting consisted of a nonfirst of the championship series, the Wellington match, of 10 shots at SQO and 600 yards. • H. V. Donald (Opaki) repeated his success of last year when he won the opening rtiatch in the morning. He finished only one point behind the winner of the Wellington match in the afternoon. Top scores in the Wellington match were 92 by G, F. Jeune (Gisborne), son of last year’s champion, and by C. J. Nix (Featherston). F. J. Jeune returned 45 and .43.
