IDLE SHIPPING AT AUCKLAND
84,000 TONS OF CARGO WAITS DISCHARGE
ANOTHER SHIP TO SAIL WITHOUT LOADING
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 21. Eighty-four thousand tons of cargo is waiting discharge from 22 idle overseas, intercolonial, and large coastal ships at Auckland. Arrivals by the beginning of next week will bring this total beyond 100,000 tons. General cargoes from Britain, the United States, and Australia, and wheat and phosphate shipments are included In the waiting consignments. Forty-four thousand tons, or nearly half of the total cargoes, are in ships at anchor in' the stream or in tne Haurakl Gulf beyond Rangitoto. In addition to the list of discharging ships seven freighters are waiting to load meat, butter, cheese, wool, and general produce for the United Kingdom, the Continent, and America. The sixth large ship to leave Auckland during the waterside stoppage without waiting to complete cargo handling, the Union Steam Ship Company's motor ship Wairata, will sail to-morrow morning for the East. She will carry none of the shipments she was to have picked up here. Arriving from Bluff on Saturday afternoon the Wairata anchored in the stream to wait a berth to complete her Dominion proeramme of loading for Singapore, Port Swettenham, Penang, Rangoon, Calcutta, and Colombo. She moved this morning to a berth to take in stores, and she will leave to-morrow morning after embarking passengers.
