T.U.C. SUPPORTS WATERSIDERS
SECRETARY’S STATEMENT
“The New Zealand Trade Union Congress is in full support of the Waterside Workers’ Union, and will consider the lock-out on the waterfront at the special conference of the Congress in Wellington next Tuesday,’’ said the secretary of the Congress (Mr A. B. Grant) in a statement last evening. “If the Federation of Labour was sincere in its recent protestations against the Arbitration Court’s decision, it will also be prepared to assist the waterside workers.’’ said Mr Grant. “The waterside workers were not even offered the so-called 15 per cent, given by the Court, but were offered an increase of only 9 per cent., because, as the employers said, waterside workers worked a considerable number of overtime hours a week,” said Mr Grant.
