Valuable Shoes

Leiser Leitman, aged 31, of Brooklyn, was charged to-day with attempting' to smuggle diamonds worth 250,000 dollars into the United States in the heels of his shoes. Leitman was arrested after he arrived by aircraft from Brussels. Customs officers noticed that the heels of his shoes were unusually high and a search revealed the diamonds in 11 small packages each about the size of sugar cubes. Leitman told the police that a casual friend had promised him 100 dollars for bringing the diamonds into the United States.—New York, January 22.
