CARPENTERS ON WHARVES
DISPUTE SETTLED
MINISTER ANNOUNCES TERMS
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 9. A voluntary disputes committee is to be established t« determine conditions of employment of the carpenters’ section of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union. This was decided to-day when representatives of the New Zealand Port Employers’ Association and the union met the Minister of Labour (Mr W. Sullivan).
The Minister said to-night that the committee would consist of four members nominated by the employers and four by the union, and he would appoint a chairman. Among the issues to be decided were additional money for skill and week-end work. Both sides had agreed to accept the decision of the chairman if agreement was not reached.
LYTTELTON MEN TO RESUME
Lyttelton ships’ carpenters are expected to resume work on the waterfront to-morrow or on Monday. Most of the men have been working elsewhere, and were unable to resume yesterday after the announcement on Wednesday night that a partial settlement had been reached.
FORTY MEN RETURN AT AUCKLAND
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, November 9. Forty members of the carpenters’ section of the Waterside Workers' Union resumed work -on the Auckland waterfront tilts morning after a stoppage of a week.
