Equestrian Language The New Zealand Horse Society was not yet in a position to affiliate with the international authority, the Federation Equestre Internationale, the organising secretary| of the society (Mr Duncan Holden) told the first annual meeting in Christchurch last evening. The federation would require the society to have a large membership and the backing of the Npw Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association and possibly of the New Zealand Government. The federation, he added, was a very conservative organisation. It would not. for example, consider letters unless they were written in French, which was apparently the official equestrian language. Broken Milk Bottles The Christchurch Metropolitan Milk Board, at its meeting yesterday, decided to ask the Milk Vendors’ Association to co-operate in clearing up glass from broken milk bottles. The board’s supervising officer recommended that it be compulsory for milk delivery vehicles to be equipped with a brush and shovel for clearing un broken glass. A representative •of the association at the meeting said vendors would co-operate. Many of them already carried the equipment. Wandering Ducks A family living in Avalon street, Richmond, was surprised to find a wild duck with 11 ducklings on the front lawn yesterday morning. The home is some distance from the river, and the family could not understand how the duck and ducklings managed to make the journey unmolested at 8 o’clock in the morning. The birds were put in the fowlhouse for safe keeping until they could be transported back to the river. The Fishing Rivers According to advice received by the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, the condition of the fishing | rivers at noon yesterday was: Halswell, fishatye apart from surface weed movement; Hurunui, Waimakariri, Ashley. Selwyn, Lower Rakaia, clear and fishable; Upper Rakaia, river clear and fishable. Weather calm and clear.
