SHORTAGE OF MINISTERS
REPORT TO PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. November 7. The Presbyterian Church was today up against a real crisis in her life —the crisis of insufficient manpower —said the Rev. A. D. Horwell. director of the home ministry, to the General Assembly of the church to-day. “There are 42 vacancies in the ministry and nine in the home mission field, with four more coming up.” he said. “That means there will be over 50 vacancies in our total of about 353 parishes.” “Until we get sufficient men and women for ministers, home missionaries. and deaconesses, the church will be called on for a display of patienc? and self denial,” said the Rev. A. C. McLean. *
A report said that with so many vacancies the work of the church was bring seriously handicapped. A serious problem was also caused by the many invitations to ministers to change their spheres. Short ministerial tenures were causing concern to treasurers because of the high cost o; rcmjvjl
