Crucial Votes Expected In’ Commons

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) • - LONDON, November 6. Britain’s Labour Government and Conservative Opposition will to-day begin a series of challenges and votes in the House of Commons which the Tories hope will bring down the Government and force a General Election. •

The Conservatives and Liberals are expected to unite and call for at learft three confidence votes to-day and to-morrow. They could wipe out the Government’s seven majority if they muster a full vote, as the Government ranks are dangerously thinned through sickness, and absenteeism. Two points of the Conservative and Liberal attack will be the rate of housebuilding and the cost of living. The Government’s plan to introduce a bill making permanent the war-time controls over the nation’s economy is expected- to produce ‘‘a fight to a finish.”
