GERMANY’S ROLE IN DEFENCE
ASSURANCE GIVEN BY CHANCELLOR (Rec. 7 p.m.) BERLIN, November 5. The West German Chancellor (Dr. Adenauer) speaking at Stuttgart, said he could guarantee that if. Germany were asked to do her part in West European defence and tne West German Parliament accepted this proposition, the Wehrmacht in its former condition would never be created again. He was afraid that the French Defence Minister’s plan for a European Army would take too long to secure European unity. He'had the impression that Russia would not leavd so long a time to Europe.He added that in the Russian Zone, 35 well-equipped Soviet divisions were stationed ready to march.on West Germany. I Dr. Adenauer predicted that the political situation in Germany in the coming months would be more serious than at present. Communists interrupted his speech Several times, and were dragged away by the police.
