MOTHER AND SON TO MEET AGAIN

SEPARATED FOR 42 YEARS (N«w Zealand Press Association) WHANGAREI, November 0. 42 years during which each thought the other was dead, a mother and son are to be reunited. Mr S. C. Mitchell, aged 73, is about to go to England to see his 102-year-old mother. In an English newspaper, Mr Mitchell read of his mother being interviewed by the Mayoress of Plymouth on her 102nd birthday. He had not seen her for 42 years and thought she was dead. Mr Mitchell enlisted in the New Zealand forces in the First World War. His mother thought he had been killed, and he thought his mother had been killed in a bombing raid. On reading about his mother Mr Mitchell sent an air mail letter to his mother, and within 10 days he had a reply. His mother is living in a home in Plymouth, and says that she is well. Mr Mitchell will sail this month to see his mother. He has written to the Mayoress of Plymouth advising her of nis plans and leaving it to her to decide whether his mother should be told of his arrival early next year before she celebrates her 103rd birthday in May, or whether his arrival should be kept as a surprise.
