The Christchurch district coutfcfi gf the Trade Union Congress, which hit been functioning with interim official, since its inception, held an election last week with the following,appoint-ment-president. Mr F, L. ■ Uncle, (secretary of the New Zealand Carpenters’ Union): vice-presideilt, Mr J Whitford (vice-president of the Lntelton Waterside Workers’ ’Union)' secretary and treasurer, Mt- A. B Grant: executive. Messrs H’.G. Kni Patrick (secretary of, the New Zealand -Freezing Workers’ Union), J McNulty (an executive member ot the Lyttelton Watenide workerr Union). R. C. Day (president of the Christchurch Caroenters’ UMon), L Corliss (president of the Chrtachureh Rubber Workers’ Union), and A. Bairi (president of the Christchurch Biscui 1 Workers’ Union): representative oa national executive. Mr Kilpatrick. One resolution of the meeting urged toe Government “to curtail commercial and luxury building going on today by 50 to TO per cent, and .put the men and materials made available on to building houses." The Government will also be asked to instruct its delegate to‘oppose recognition by the United Nations ot Spain. Regret at the death of G. B. Shsw was recorded. The meeting considered him “a socialist who maintained his philosophy and principles.” j
