WATERSIDERS AT LYTTELTON
HANDLING ESSENTIAL CARGOES ROSTER DRAWN UP FOR WEEK Lyttelton waterside workers attended a meeting of the local branch of their union at 8 o’clock yesterday morning. The meeting was brief. The men were told that there was no change in the position, and that a roster had been drawn up for the week of men required to report from day to day for essential cargoes. With the exception of the few required for work at the steamer express, all then left for their homes. There are no essential cargoes at Lyttelton at present, except that carried by the inter-island steamers. The Port Waikato is due to-morrow night from the Chatham Islands with cattle for discharge at Lyttelton and . fish for discharge at Wellington. As both of these are classed as perishable no difficulty is expected in having them discharged.
