CHRIST’S COLLEGE
VISITORS EXPECTED FOR CENTENNIAL Old boys of Christ’s College from almost every part of the Dominion and some from overseas will arrive in Christchurch next month to attend the centennial celebrations of the college, for which a comprehensive programme of events has. been arranged. A ball to be held on the King Edward Barracks, a pageant and garden party to be held at the college, a sherry party, the staging of a play at the college, sports of many kinds, and a dinner are among the most important gatherings planned for the occasion. Among Australian visitors will be Mr Daniel G. Mclntyre (secretary of the Sydney branch of the Christ’s College Old Boys’ Association). Mr W. M. C. Ellis, from Hamilton, Victoria, and Mr E. W. H. Cowper, of Sydney. The older generation of old boys will be interested to learn that Mr E. B. Bexley, of Lymington, Tasmania, who is now 82 years old, hopes to attend the celebrations. Three members of Parliament and one member of the Legislative Council—all former pupils of Christ’s College—are expected to attend some of the events, and will be accompanied by their wives. They Mr J. K. McMr T. P. Shand, Mr R. G. Gerard, and Mr Cheviot W. D. Bell, M.L.C. Gisborne will be represented by Mr and Mrs H. B. Williams, Dr. Gunn, and Mr and Mrs S. D. Reeves, Auckland by Mr and Mrs Neil Ballantyne, and New Plymouth by Mr and Mrs W. C. Weston. Mr J. D. H. Buchanan, headmaster of Hereworth School, Havelock North, and Mrs Buchanan, and Mr K. S. Williams are expected from Hawke’s Bay; Archdeacon W. W. Averill (president of the Timaru branch of the Old Boys’ Association) and Mrs Averill will be among southern visitors, and one of Wellington’s representatives will be Mr T. T. C. Birch.
