An outline of the centennial celebrations of the Christchurch diocese of the Roman Catholic Church, to be held from Wednesday, November 15, to Sunday, November 19, has been given by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev. The celebrations would commence on the Wednesday with a liturgical reception to Cardinal Gilroy, Archbishop of Sydney. The centenary sermon, which would be preached at a Solemn Pontifical Mass on Thursday, would be given by the Archbishop of Brisbane (the Most Rev. J, Duhig). A public lecture at the Civic Theatre would be included in the celebrations, said Bishop Joyce. This would given on Friday by the Most Rev. E. M. O’Brien, Auxiliary Bishop of Sydney. A complimentary men’s luncheon would be tendered to Cardinal Gilroy on Saturday. All the parishes in the Christchurch, diocese would hold their own celebrations on Friday, November 17, said Bishop Joyce.
