MR BOLT REPLIES TO MR LEWIN (New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, August 30. “The Public Service Commission has never sought the right to sack a civil servant because of his political beliefs. but it has repeatedly asked the Government for legislatipn empowering it to transfer an employee from one department to another because of security reasons,” said MT Q. T. Bolt, a fheffiber of the commission, tp-day He denied allegations by Mr J. p. Lewin, president of the Public Service Association, that the Government was being pressed to pass legislation forbidding political activity of any kind in the service and, authorising the dismissal, of employees suspected of being poor security risks. Mr Bolt said it was reasonable that the commission should have power to transfer an employee considered dangerous in his present position.
