LOCAL BODIES DISCUSS ALLOCATION . In ah endeavour to reach an agreement on the allocation of hetivy traffic fees in the No. 16 Heavy Traffic District, a conference of representatives of the 24 local bodies in the district was held in Christchurch yesterday. ' . , The previous agreement pxpired in May, 1949, and has not since been renewed. A sub-committee under the chairmanship of Mr J. W. Niven was set up to make a recommendation to the conference. It was agreed at the meeting yesterday to allocate fees on the basis of expenditure on roads in the financial years ending in 1949 and 1950. This decision is subject to confirmation by the Akaroa Borough and Tawera County Councils, which were not represented at the conference. If final agreement, is not reached, the Minister of Transport (Mr W. S. Goosman) will be asked to make the allocations.
