THE MAYORALTY
Sir, —Unless the correspondent, “A Worker,” displays more intelligence in his work than he does in his letter writing the employer must be a loser by employing him or her. It was a Citizens’ Association Tramway Board, which, after raiding all reserves, left a deficiency of nearly £20,000, with nothing-to meet it but striking a rate. This position the first Labour board inherited. Later, the Labour board gave way to another Citizens’ board and the trams were then paying their way without striking a rate. ’ When the present Labour board took over, it again inherited a greater deficiency, a growing rate, and a worn-out service. AS' the Citizens’. Association has had control of the trams ever since the service was commenced, with the exception of about 12 years, any faults must rest mainly with the association and not be blamed on a Labour board. —Yours, etc., E. PARLANE. August 30, 1950. t
