MUSIC FESTIVAL

METHODIST CHOIRS IN CHRISTCHURCH

Nearly 1000 persons attended a festival of music held last evening in the Durham Street Methodist Church, Christchurch, as part of the centennial celebrations of the Methodist Church. A programme of music by Mendelssohn was presented by a group of 80 singers from the Fitzgerald Avenue, Linwood, Richmond, Shirley, New Brighton, Woolston, and South Brighton Methodist Churches. The group was conducted by Mr G. B. Couch and the organist was Mr A. J. Clark. Mr W. Melville Lawry was the organist and conductor for the second group of about 80 singers from the Durham Street, Lyttelton, Redcliffs, and Sumner Churches. This group presented a programme of miscellaneous music, followed by Sullivan’s “Festival Te Deum.”
