NURSE MAUDE ASSOCIATION
NEW BRANCH FORMED AT RANGIORA A branch ot the Nurse Maude Association was formed at a public meeting held at Rangiora last evening. Preliminary arrangements were made for a district nurse, Miss Elspeth Croy, to begin duty in Rangiora soon. The meeting was addressed by members of the Nurse Maude Association and the North Canterbury HosEital Board. It was stated that the department of Health would need to be convinced that there was sufficient work to keep the nurre occupied before she was appointed permanently. In the interim, however, she would be engaged for a year. Her activities would be restricted at the start to a radius of two miles, and it should be understood that she would not be able to do anv domestic work. The Mayor of Rangiora (Mr C. W. Tyler), who was elected chairman of the new branch, said that donations and grants in hand or expected amounted to about £lOO, leaving about £2OO to be found for the first year’s bperations.
Mr C. Campbell was elected secretary of the branch and Mr J. S. C. Thomas treasurer.
ENGAGEMENTS
The engagement is announced of Sidney George, the youngest son of Mr A. Leggett and the late Mrs Leggett, 68 Nor.thcote road, Papanui. to Elizabeth Dora, the youngest daughter of Mrs Gilmore and the late John Gilmore, 4 Godley avenue, Papanui.
Mr and Mrs R. K. Villumsen, Hokitika, are pleased to announce the engagement of their only daughter, Jean Marie, to Ralph Edwin, youngest son of Mr and Mrs J. J. Wylie. St. Albans. Christchurch.
Mr and Mrs J. O’Loughlin, Murchison, have much pleasure in announcing the engagement of their daughter, Esther May to Frederick Victor, only son of the late F. V. and Mrs Stratford. Cleghorn street, Blenheim.
Mr and Mrs E. J. Williams, Waimate, have much pleasure in announcing the engagement of their daughter, Shirley, to Desmond, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Bodger Mathesons road. Christchurch
In the course of a five weeks’ visit to the South Island, a "party from the United Maori Missions, an interdenominational organisation operating in Auckland and North Auckland, is now visiting Christchurch. The party is led by Mr C. B. Eennet, who for three and a half years was the Y.M.C.A. secretary with -the 28th Maori Battalion of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. For his services overseas he was awarded the M.8.E., and was mentioned in dispatches. The others in the party are Mrs McKay. Miss Ema Kake, and Mr Adam Latimer, missionary workers, and Miss Molly Waenga. The United Maori Missions conducts three hostels in Auckland for about 120 young Maori men and women, and hopes soon to start an-' other hostel. In addition, it engages in evangelical work in the districts about Kaikohe, Kaeo, and Kaitaia.
