RADIO PROGRAMMES
Sir, —The net result of the recently announced new programmes from our local radio stations seems to be a marked increase in the amount of classical and semi-classical music. When the new transmitters are under way we are promised even stiffer doses ot the same medicine. Those in authority cynically assume that, the greater proportion of the listening public are catered for by the commercial stations and that anyone tuning into any national station is a devout devotee of the “highbrow” type of music. The truth is that we endure rather than enjoy the fare provided; and this will continue to be so until those who pay the piper call the tune and do so in no uncertain manner.—Yours, etc..
